Mustangs Pull Away in Shutout of Tufts

REISTERSTOWN, Md. -- Stevenson men's hockey won its second game against Tufts in as many days with a 4-0 shutout on Saturday at the Reisterstown Sportsplex. 

Stevenson (6-2-1) won its third consecutive game, pulling away with three goals in the second stanza. Tufts (0-4-1) dropped its fourth consecutive game with the loss. 

Ryan Patrick had two goals in the second, one on the power play and the other shorthanded, to push the Mustangs to a commanding lead. 

  • Stevenson came out the aggressors early on with attempts from Frank Vitucci and Aidan Graham stopped on the power play. Ryan Kenny made a stop on the other end for the Mustangs, who went back to the man advantage following a cross-check. 
  • Alex Rivet buried his fourth goal of the season at 5:34 for the 1-0 Stevenson lead. 
  • Both sides continued trading chances as each goalie stood tall for the remaining of the period. 

  • Patrick positioned himself at the back right post, slotting home a cross-ice feed from Master to double the Stevenson advantage at 2-0 on the power play. 
  • Tufts had its turn on the power play, but Kenny and the Mustang defense limited the chances. Following a slashing call, Patrick converted a shorthanded tally at the 7:03 mark. 
  • The Jumbos looked to answer with zone time of its own as Kenny denied all 11 chances in the second period. 
  • Brendan Rylott capped the scoring with his fourth goal of the season at 13:38. 
  • Tufts came up empty on another man-advantage opportunity with just under three minutes left in the stanza. Kenny made a pair of saves, while Austin Master blocked a shot for Stevenson on the penalty kill. 

  • Each side continued racking up the penalty minutes in the third. 
  • Stevenson worked away time in the offensive zone with a five-minute power-play chance. 
  • Stevenson earned some crucial faceoff wins on the penalty kill to disrupt the flow of the Tufts man advantage. 
  • Kenny made two more saves minutes after the conclusion of a Mustang penalty, some of the last viable looks the Jumbos had on goal. 

  • Stevenson nabbed its third consecutive win, posting triumphs in six of the last eight games. 
  • The Mustangs recorded its first home shutout since December 2019. 
  • Stevenson is now 3-0 when Patrick finds the back of the net. 
  • Shots were relatively even throughout, with Stevenson holding a narrow 36-34 edge.
  • Stevenson outscored Tufts by a 10-2 margin over the two contests. 
  • Patrick has a point in four consecutive games for the Mustangs, notching the first multi-goal effort of the season on Saturday.
