Box Score MADISON, N.J. -- Stevenson football clinched a postseason berth for the seventh-straight season in an impressive 52-33 road win at FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon.
Stevenson (5-5, 5-3 MAC) notched its fifth victory in a row, overcoming a weather delay and an inspired FDU-Florham (6-4, 5-3 MAC) side celebrating its Senior Day. In what essentially amounted to a win-and-in matchup, the Mustangs opened up a 24-14 halftime lead, adding 28 points in the second half to run away with the wire-to-wire triumph.
- Stevenson shut down the opening FDU-Florham possession of the afternoon with a fourth-down stand. On the Mustangs' first play from scrimmage, senior QB Ryan Sedgwick found Cory Jones for a 41-yard completion, setting up a first and goal.
- Sedgwick found Amir Moore for a six-yard score as Brody Campbell added the extra-point for a 7-0 Stevenson advantage.
- The Mustangs doubled their lead to 14-0 on a Brandon Walker tote, capping a nine-play drive that spanned 70 yards.
- Anthony Caserta called his own number for a one-yard touchdown, trimming the Stevenson lead to 14-7 early in the second quarter.
- Stevenson seized the momentum back in a big way as Darian Littlejohn burst free for an 81-yard kickoff return, pushing the edge back to 21-7.
- Two drives later, Coserta found Rory Sullivan from 12 yards out as the Devils made it a 21-14 game with just under 2:40 left in the opening half.
- Both sides were sent to the locker room as inclement weather moved into the area, forcing a 95-minute lightning delay.
- Stevenson unspooled a 12-play drive that culminated in a 32-yard Campbell field goal with just 11 seconds remaining in the half.
- Littlejohn took the opening kickoff of the second half all the way back to the FDU-Florham 22, using some sound blocking on the return. After a 12-yard jaunt for Maurice Hammond handed the Mustangs a first and goal, the sophomore lifted the visitors ahead 31-14 on the next play.
- FDU-Florham benefited from a long kickoff return of its own before the Devils scored on a 30-yard pass play, whittling the Stevenson lead to 31-21.
- Both defenses rose up for large chunks of the third quarter, which included a drive where Stevenson raced in for back-to-back sacks that prompted a punt.
- Sedgwick found Smothers on consecutive pass plays of 19 and 22 yards, the second of which pushed Stevenson to a 38-21 lead.
- The Mustangs put up a game-breaking touchdown on a drive that carried into the fourth quarter as Sedgwick passed to Sedgwick for 32 yards and a 45-21 edge.
- Despite an FDU-Florham response, Stevenson kept up the pressure, as Brandon Booze hauled in a 17-yard score from Sedgwick for a 52-27 Mustang lead.
- Caserta found Danny Murphy for a late score with time ticking away.
- The Mustangs have put up some gaudy offensive showings against FDU-Florham, and Saturday was no different. Stevenson finished with 445 yards of total offense, converting at an 83% clip on third down.
- Stevenson's drive that essentially put the game away went for 92 yards over 13 plays, chewing 5:37 off the clock before taking the 45-21 lead.
- The Mustangs also tallied five sacks on the day, with 2.5 coming from Mario McIntyre, setting a new school record for a single game. Totaling nine tackles, McIntyre added to an already impressive and record-breaking season with 12.5 sacks in 10 games.
- Sedgwick surpassed the 6,000-yard passing mark for his career on Saturday, collecting 333 yards through the air, In total, Sedgwick has surpassed 300 passing yards in five games this season.
- Littlejohn tallied 184 yards in the kick return game, recording an average of 46.0 yards with some big plays on the special teams unit. An all-purpose threat for the Mustangs, Littlejohn added 23 receiving yards.
- Stevenson moves to 10-0 in the all-time series with FDU-Florham, recording 50 or more points for the fifth time against the Devils.
