Women's Tennis Drops MAC Commonwealth Semifinal to Alvernia, 5-3

READING, Pa. - The third-seeded Stevenson women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals to second seed Alvernia, 5-3. 

The Mustangs opened up the match by taking two out of three on the doubles side. 

Juniors Jenna Skove and Kelsi Mentzer opened up play with a solid 8-4 win in No. 1, improving their record to 10-7. Junior Nina Bretz and sophomore Taelor Brown picked up their fourth victory as a duo in their 8-3 victory in No. 3. Sophomore Megan Waskiewicz and senior Kirstyn Davidson suffered an 8-3 setback in No. 2, dropping their record to 9-8.

In singles play, Skove turned in a solid effort, but would drop her No. 1 match by a 6-4, 7-6 (6) margin.  Waskiewicz, Davidson and Bretz would also drop their matches in straight sets. 

Mentzer picked up the lone singles victory for the Mustangs in No. 4 by a 6-2, 7-6 (2), giving her six wins on the season.

Alvernia will take on top-seeded Messiah, who defeated Lebanon Valley by a 5-0 score in their semifinal match, in the MAC Commonwealth Finals on Saturday, May 4.

The Mustangs will have to await the ECAC selection announcement, which occurs on Monday, May 6, to see if their season will continue.
