STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson women's tennis team dropped its match to Messiah by an 8-1 score in a battle for the top spot in the MAC Commonwealth standings. The Mustangs, who have already clinched a spot in the conference playoffs, now sit a half game back of Messiah in the standings. Despite the margin of defeat for the Mustangs, a majority of the matches were highly competitive, including three third-set tiebreaks in the singles matches. 

Juniors Jenna Skove and Kelsi Mentzer dropped to 8-7 on the year after falling in their No. 1 doubles match by an 8-6 score. Senior Kirstyn Davidson and sophomore Megan Waskiewicz fell to their No. 2 opponents 8-5, gving the duo a record of 8-7. Junior Nina Bretz and sophomore Taelor Brown suffered an 8-5 setback in their No. 3 match.

Skove took the first set by a 7-5 score in her No. 1 singles match before falling in a thriling three set tiebreak, 5-7, 6-1, 10-8. 

Davidson picked up the lone win for the Mustangs in No. 2 singles. After dropping the first set, Davidson turned the tables on her opponent in the second with a 6-2 win. Davidson would then take the third set by a 10-7 margin for her 10th win of the season.

Bretz won the first set of her No. 5 match by a 6-2 score, but would eventually fall in a third set tiebreak (2-6, 6-3, 10-2).

Freshman Jacquelyn Nesbeth dropped her No. 6 match by a 7-5, 6-4 score.

The Mustangs (8-5, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth) compete in their final MAC Commonwealth match before the conference playoffs on Saturday, April 17. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Greenspring Tennis Courts.
