Mustangs Upset Falls Short Versus No. 4 Mary Washington

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson women's lacrosse team held a 4-1 lead at the start of the second half but fourth-ranked Mary Washington scored seven of the final nine goals en route to an 8-6 non-conference victory Wednesday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

  • Following a save by junior Mack Ferguson, the Mustangs (3-3) struck first as classmate Carly Bowes gave the hosts the lead, 5:17 into the contest.
  • Just 3:12 later, freshman Caroline Murphy doubled the lead, scoring on a free-position shot, after a caused turnover by junior Sarah Roerty.
  • With 5:17 remaining in the opening half, sophomore Lindsay Seipp increased the hosts lead to three after the ninth consecutive save by Ferguson.
  • The Eagles (8-1) got on the board just 32 seconds later after winning the ensuing draw control.
  • Stevenson recorded the final three shots of the frame, including a shot off the crossbar by senior Dana Stevens.

  • Bowes netted her second goal of the game just 1:15 into the half to give the Mustangs a, 4-1 lead.
  • Mary Washington responded with a free-position goal 19 seconds later to spark a 4-0 run over the next 6:14.
  • A free-position goal by Stevens tied the game at 6-6 before the Eagles took another one-goal lead.
  • Stevenson tied the game once again, this time on an extra-player goal by Seipp on an assist from Stevens.
  • The Eagles answered with back-to-back goals, 37 seconds apart, to take a two-goal lead with 4:51 remaining.
  • Hanna Ashby made three stops over the final five minutes for Mary Washington, including a free-position save.

  • Stevenson outshot Mary Washington, 26-23, including 14-10 in the first half.
  • The Mustangs were 3-for-6 on free-position shots while the Eagles were 2-for-4, including 2-for-2 in the second half.
  • Ferguson finished with 11 saves, including nine in the opening half.
  • Bowes finished with two goals to extend her goal streak to 10 games.
  • Freshman Tea Ferrara recorded a team-high four draw controls.
