Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's lacrosse freshman Caroline Murphy netted a career-best five goals to highlight seven different goal scorers in the Mustangs, 13-10, non-conference victory over Montclair State Tuesday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
- The Mustangs (2-3) won the opening draw control but it was the Red Hawks (3-2) that struck first with a free-position goal just 2:58 into the contest.
- After Montclair State took a 2-0 lead, freshman Kaitlyn Kozlowski scored 28 seconds later after winning the ensuing draw control.
- Red Hawks leading scorer Chelsea Orban gave the visitors a 3-2 lead with 20:32 remaining in the opening half before Stevenson scored five of the next six goals to take a 6-4 lead.
- Murphy scored a pair of goals during the run while freshman Tea Ferrara scored a free-position goal. Junior Carly Bowes and sophomore Lindsay Seipp also found the back of the net.
- Montclair State scored the final two goals of the half, including a goal by Megan Mahlstadt with 1:39 left, to tie the game heading into halftime.
- The Red Hawks scored two quick goals to open the second half and take an 8-6 lead as Kyle Graver scored twice just 31 seconds apart.
- Stevenson responded with a 5-0 run, with Murphy starting and ending the run. Bowes, senior Dana Stevens, and freshman Lan Le Crotty also scored during the run.
- Bowes goal was started by a point blank save by junior Mack Ferguson on Orban.
- The visitors stopped the run with 8:05 remaining to get back within, 11-9, but Bowes responded with a free-position goal before Murphy scored on an assist from Seipp.
- Montclair State outshot Stevenson, 30-27, including, 15-12, in the second half after both teams recorded 15 in the first half.
- The Mustangs were 3-for-8 on free-position shots while the Red Hawks were 1-for-4.
- Murphy finished with six points on five goals and an assist and has eight goals over the last two games.
- Bowes recorded with a hat trick and has seven goals over the last two games. The junior also totaled a career-high five caused turnovers while adding four ground balls and three draw controls.
- Stevens totaled three points on a free-position goal and two assists while Kozlowski had a goal and an assist while adding four draw controls.
- Defensively, senior Gabby DiGello had three caused turnovers and three ground balls while junior Sarah Roerty had two ground balls and two draw controls.
- Ferguson finished with nine saves in net while picking up three ground balls.
- Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, March 17 when the Mustangs face Geneseo in a non-conference contest in Florida.
- The Mustangs return home on Wednesday, March 20 versus second-ranked Mary Washington.
