Box Score WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Stevenson men's soccer senior DR Medtart netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 82nd minute, as the top-seeded Mustangs defeated fourth-seeded Westminster (Pa.), 3-2, in the ECAC Division III Championship Pod One First Round Saturday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field.
- Neither team recorded a shot in the opening seven minutes before the Mustangs (13-6-3) put back-to-back shots on net in a four-second span.
- Sophomore Matt Stellitano made his first save of the game in the 10th minute on a header.
- Stevenson got on the board in the 15th minute as junior Pete Wickiser fired a shot off a defender from the top of the 18-yard box.
- The Titans (10-8-3) responded 4:46 later as Ahmed Cisse found Peter Mattocks up the middle who scored on a breakaway.
- The Mustangs earned their first corner kick in the 22nd minute.
- Westminster took a 2-1 lead in the 27th minute as Mattocks picked up his second point of the game with an assist.
- Junior Tariq Lee fired a shot off the crossbar in the 32nd minute before a rebound by sophomore Sean McDonald was saved.
- Medtart tied the game in the 40th minute as junior Dylan Holy found Medtart for the score.
- The Titans put a shot on frame in the opening minute of the second half but it was saved by Stellitano.
- McDonald hit the crossbar in the 64th minute before the rebound attempt by junior CJ Beteta was saved by Ezra Cimino.
- A corner kick by sophomore Alex Morales in the 76th minute found the head of junior Matthew Glady but his shot went wide left.
- In the 82nd minute, the Mustangs defense came up with a team save before Medtart scored the game-winning goal one minute later as he headed in a cross from senior James Vess.
- Westminster had one last shot attempt in the 87th minute but Mattocks did not put it on net.
- Stevenson outshot Westminster, 23-16, including 11-6 in the second half.
- The Mustangs held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
- It is the second career multi-goal game for Medtart.
- Stellitano finished with seven saves, including four in the opening half.
- Stevenson is 5-2-1 in the ECAC Tournament, its fourth appearance.
- With the win, the Mustangs surpassed their win total from last year. The 13 wins are third best in program history behind the 15 won in 2005.
- Stevenson will face second-seeded Wilkes in the quarterfinals on Sunday, November 17 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
