Opening Minute Goal Leads Lycoming Over Mustangs

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Lycoming scored the game's lone goal just 37 seconds into the contest as the visiting Warriors snapped the Stevenson men's soccer team's four-game home unbeaten streak with a 1-0 MAC Commonwealth victory Saturday evening at Mustang Stadium.

  • Just 37 seconds into the contest, Tajhon Willis lobbed a pass into the center of the six-yard box from in close to Tanner Fonjweng who headed it to the far left post to give the Warriors the early lead.
  • The Mustangs (10-4-2, 3-2-0 MAC COmmonwealth) recorded a pair of shots on net in the opening 10 minutes but neither had enough power to get past Zack Donoway.
  • Stevenson finished the half with a 4-3 advantage in shots after Lycoming (8-6-0, 2-2-0 MAC Commonwealth) recorded the first two.

  • In the early stages of the half, senior DR Medtart headed the ball into the box for junior Jay Smith but Smith caught the ball on the outside of his foot and sent his shot wide.
  • Just a few minutes later, Smith played a ball across from the endline that was hit out by Donoway but to junior Tariq Lee who had his shot blocked in front.
  • In the 55th minute, Kalu Ume got his feet free at the corner of the six-yard box but fired his shot off the near post.
  • Junior Dylan Holy sent a header wide of the net as both he and Donoway played the ball at the six-yard box.

  • Stevenson outshot Lycoming, 7-6, with both teams recording just three shots in the second half.
  • Each team was whistled for 13 fouls and two yellow cards.
  • Medtart made his 70th career start, which ranks third in program history. The record is 75 set by Sean Scarselletta '11.
  • In pregame ceremonies, the Mustangs honored Medtart, James Vess, Nick Ellis, Bobby Considine, and Ryan Gaukler.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, October 25 when the Mustangs host Widener in a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
