Holy Nets Two as Mustangs Down Penn College, 6-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer sophomore Dylan Holy netted a pair of goals to lead five different goal scorers as the Mustangs defeated Penn College, 6-0, in a non-conference contest in the home opener Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

  • The Mustangs (1-1) earned a corner kick just over a minute into the game and the service by freshman Alex Morales found the head of Holy but goalkeeper Hunter Gosnell was in position to knock it down.
  • A minute later, Stevenson was awarded a free kick from 35 yards out. The service by junior DR Medtart was knocked down but Morales lofted the ball back in play, which Holy headed over the reach of Gosnell for his first goal of the season.
  • The Wildcats had their first scoring opportunity in the 10th minute with a free kick from the top of the 18-yard box but Chris McFarland's kick went wide.
  • Holy made it 2-0 in favor of the hosts in the 13th minute as he headed in his second of the game on a free kick from Medtart from 30 yards out.
  • Sophomore Matthew Glady scored his first career goal, receiving a pass from freshman Jason Kahan before firing a shot from the top of the 18-yard box and tucking it inside of the far right post.
  • Just two minutes later, Glady won the ball back at midfield with a slide tackle, before sophomore Tariq Lee carried the ball down the field before firing it to the far right post for his first of the season.
  • In the 33rd minute, senior Iliyas Mirza made a move around a pair of defenders before serving the ball in from the right side of the box to sophomore Jay Smith, who easily headed home the ball for the score.
  • Penn College (0-1) had its best scoring chance in the 34th minute as Vance Gradwell's shot got past sophomore goalkeeper Bobby Considine but hit the post before being cleared.
  • Glady nearly had his second goal of the game in the 42nd minute as his shot to the far right post hit off the post.

  • Considine made his second save of the game early in the half on a free kick from 30 yards out.
  • Down the other end, Medtart played a long through ball from midfield following a throw in to freshman Pete Wickiser who netted his first career goal, playing the ball across to the far right post.
  • Considine preserved his shutout with a save in the 81st minute as the Wildcats, flicked on a free kick sent into the box.

  • Stevenson outshot Penn College, 15-8 and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Head coach Graeme Millar is 5-2-1 in home openers at Mustang Stadium, including 2-0-0 with the men.
  • The six goals in a game is the most since the Mustangs scored six on September 5, 2014 in a 6-0 victory over Penn State-Beaver.
  • Consodine finished with three saves for his first career shutout.
  • It is the first multi-goal game for Holy, who netted one goal in his rookie season.
  • It is the first multi-assist game for Medtart, who entered the season with three.

Glady netted his first career goal on an assist from Kahan in the 27th minute.

  • Stevenson continues its four-game home stand when the Mustangs welcome York (Pa.) to Mustang Stadium on Wednesday, September 5. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
