Women's Tennis Defeats Alvernia in MAC Opener, 7-2

READING, Pa. - The Stevenson women's tennis team opened up MAC Commonwealth play with a decisive 7-2 victory over host Alvernia.

The Mustangs (3-6, 1-0) started off the day by taking each of the three doubles matches. 

Sophomores Jenna Skove and Kelsi Mentzer won their third-straight match in No. 1 doubles by an 8-4 score. The win improves their record to 7-8 on the year. In No. 2, junior Kirstyn Davidson and freshman Megan Waskiewicz won by the same 8-4 margin. The Mustangs took the other doubles match by default.

Mentzer won her second singles match in a row after sweeping her opponent in No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Waskiewicz, who also won in straight sets (6-2, 6-1), improved her singles record to 7-5 on the year.

Junior Christina Endy picked up her second win of the year by taking her No. 5 match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. 

Stevenson won its other match by default.

In No. 1 singles, Skove dropped a hard-fought match in a third-set tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (9).

The Mustangs continue conference play in a home match against Albright. The match begins at 1:00 pm on the Greenspring courts.
