CLAREMONT, Calif. - For the second time this season, the Stevenson women's lacrosse team was held to under 10 shots as 22nd-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps posted a 12-4 non-conference victory Monday evening at Zinda Field.

It is the third time this season the Mustangs (1-5) have been held to under 10 goals and recorded a season-high 41 turnovers.

Despite not winning the opening draw, Stevenson gained possession early after a caused turnover by sophomore Carly Bowes that led to the opening goal of the game by junior Dana Stevens. Stevens has a goal in five of the opening six games and is only one goal shy of her career-best seven goals set last season.

The Athenas (6-1) answered 27 seconds later and scored six straight to end the half, including three by Corie Hack. The hosts continued its run into the second half scoring four more goals, including another two by Hack, before freshman Lauren Tarnowski stopped the Mustangs' 44:17 scoring drought with her second goal of the year.

After Hannah Graves scored a pair of goals to extend Claremont-Mudd-Scripps lead back to 10, Bowes netted a goal for the sixth straight game before sophomore Kiely Bunce scored her 11th goal of the season on an assist from senior Hana Tankersley. It is the team leading 14th goal of the season for Bowes.

The Mustangs were outshot 43-9 but won 12 of the 18 draw controls. Senior Jamie Bittner finished with a game-high six draw controls and added two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Sophomore Mack Ferguson tied her career-high with 16 saves.

Stevenson returns to action on Thursday, March 15 when the Mustangs face Chapman in the second and final spring break game. Opening draw is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. EST.
