Box Score READING, Pa. – Freshman Olivia Coleman recorded her second career double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds as the Stevenson University women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 52-40 win at Alvernia University in MAC Commonwealth action Tuesday night at McCloskey Court.
Stevenson (15-10, 9-7 MAC Commonwealth) won its third straight and moved within one game of Lebanon Valley (9-6) for the No. 4 spot in the conference standings, as the Dutchmen fell 80-66 at Lycoming Tuesday night.
The Mustangs and LVC are locked into Monday's MAC Commonwealth Championship first round game, with the Dutchmen facing 16th-ranked Messiah on Saturday. If Lebanon Valley upsets the Falcons, it would host Monday's game, but a loss for the Dutchmen means Stevenson would host, as it holds the tiebreaker against Lebanon Valley.
Coleman also had a pair of blocked shots on the evening. Junior Jonyae Curry finished 7-9 from the floor and recorded 17 points.
Torie Zerbe led the Golden Wolves (4-20, 0-15 MAC Commonwealth) with 10 points.
Stevenson trailed by three twice early but led 12-8 after one quarter. The Mustangs extended their run to 7-0 to start the second and took a 15-8 lead at the 6:39 mark of the second quarter on a free throw by freshman Denia Campbell. After a Zerbe basket stopped Stevenson's run at the 5:22 mark, the Mustangs scored six straight to extend the larger run to 13-2 to go up 21-10 on a pair of Morgan Jacobs free throws 1:59 before halftime. The guests led 24-14 at the break.
An 8-0 Alvernia run capped by a pair of free throws by Maya Cooper pulled the Golden Wolves within five, 27-22, with 5:19 to go in the third, and the hosts got within four on two free throws by Zerbe at 4:47. Freshman Alexa Sanmartin hit a three at the 4:36 mark to half the 10-1 Alvernia run, and Stevenson took a 38-28 lead into the final frame. Stevenson took its largest lead, 45-32, with 6:06 left on a basket by senior Kristine Tennyson, and did not led the lead slip below nine in the fourth quarter.
Stevenson shot 34.6% for the game and 3-13 behind the arc, but limited Alvernia to 26% shooting on the evening, including 3-16 from long range. The guests were 13-24 from the free throw line while the Golden Wolves went 11-14. Stevenson outrebounded Alvernia 40-39 and held a 19-12 lead in points off turnovers.
