Four In Double Figures As Mustangs Move Past Penn State Berks

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Junior Mark Terrell led Stevenson in scoring for the third straight game with 26 points as the Mustangs jumped out to a big lead against Penn State Berks en route to an 87-74 non-conference men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

  • A three by Marlon White, Jr. capped a 10-0 run by Stevenson (3-1) to start the game 3:15 in.
  • The Mustangs made 10 of their first 14 shots from the floor as it opened up a 25-3 lead just under eight minutes into the game.
  • The hosts took their largest lead of the first half on a basket by Walt English that made it 37-11 at the 6:44 mark.
  • Penn State Berks (0-7) used a 9-2 run capped by a Matt Seip three to get within 19, 39-20, at the 3:21 mark.
  • A steal and layup by Kyle Wooldridge 1:06 before the break put the Mustangs up 45-23 at intermission.
  • Stevenson shot 59.4% (19-32) in the half while holding the Nittany Lions to 8-30 shooting (26.7%).

  • Penn State Berks outscored Stevenson 20-11 over the first 7:40 of the second half and pulled within 13, 56-43, on a three-point play by E'Drise Hightower.
  • A three by Evan Joseph at the 11:20 mark pushed Stevenson's lead back to 17, 62-45, but a 12-3 Nittany Lion spurt pulled the visitors within eight with 8:42 remaining.
  • A Matt Seip three made it a two-possession game, 68-62, with 6:36 left.
  • Stevenson responded with a 10-2 run capped by a Terrell layup with 3:35 left to make it 78-64.
  • Five straight points by Seip pulled Penn State Berks within nine with 2:47 left, but the guests got no closer.

  • Stevenson won its third straight game.
  • Terrell finished 11-16 from the floor and also grabbed four rebounds.
  • Cam Harris went 6-10 from the floor and finished with a career-best 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.
  • White added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists, while English totaled a career-high 10 points on 4-5 shooting.
  • Johnny Rhodes totaled five points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals.
  • Stevenson shot 52.2% for the game while Penn State Berks shot 43.9% from the floor after shooting 58% over the final 20 minutes.
  • The Mustangs forced 22 Nittany Lions turnovers leading to a 25-9 lead in points off takeaways, and also held a 19-3 lead in fast break points.
  • Seip led Penn State Berks with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

 

 

  • Stevenson opens MAC Commonwealth play Wednesday night when it travels to Lebanon Valley for a 6 pm contest.
  • The Mustangs return home next Saturday when they host Lycoming in a 1 pm MAC Commonwealth game.
