Mustangs Fall in Final Seconds at No. 17 Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORTS, Pa. - The Stevenson men's soccer team dropped its second consecutive contest to a ranked opponent as 17th-ranked Lycoming scored to go-ahead goal in the final 10 seconds of regulation to post a 1-0 MAC Commonwealth victory Saturday afternoon at Shangraw Complex.

  • The Mustangs (7-5, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) recorded the opening shot of the game as junior DR Medtart fired a shot on goal just 1:15 into the contest.
  • Lycoming answered with the next five shots, including back-to-back shots on goal by Alex Henry that were saved by freshman Matt Stellitano. Four of the five shots were on goal with Stellitano stopping all four.
  • In the 24th minute, the Mustangs defense assisted Stellitano as defense was credited with a save.
  • Freshmen Diego Guerrero and Alex Morales each recorded shots in the opening, including Morales' shot in the 43rd minute.
  • With just over a minute remaining in the half, the Mustangs were awarded a corner kick, which was taken by Morales and served to sophomore Jevan Leyh who sent a header wide.

  • After the teams traded wide shots, Lycoming (10-1-1, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) recorded four shots in a three-minute span with just one shot going on frame.
  • The Mustangs had its first shot on goal of the half in the 64th minute on a shot by Morales.
  • Freshman James Rosa had a shot on goal in the 69th minute before the Warriors recorded the final 10 shots of the game.
  • In the final seconds of the game, the Warriors were awarded a free kick from the right side of the 18-yard box and Jake Webb's kick found Sanclair Tueno on the back post and headed it over the Mustangs defense and in for the winner.

  • Lycoming outshot the Mustangs, 24-11, including 15-3 in the second half. Stevenson held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks, with both Mustang corner kicks coming in the first half.
  • Stellitano finished with nine saves while the team recorded two.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Tuesday, October 9 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Hood beginning at 7:00 p.m.
