STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team improved to 5-1 in MAC Commonwealth with a 5-4 win over visiting Alvernia on Senior Day. Junior Wornden Ly picked wins in both singles and doubles for the Mustangs.
Ly and senior Bryan Gieselman opened up the match with a dominating 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles. The win brings their doubles record to 12-8.
Ly would later pick up a straight-set victory in No. 2 singles, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Ly has won three of his last four singles matches.
Sophomore Peter Appiah Jr. won a thrilling third-set tiebreaker in No. 6 singles by a 10-7 score to pick up his fourth win on the season.
In No. 5 singles, senior Kevin Slujtner cruised to a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 victory, while senior Tony Beres won his No. 6 singles match by a 6-2, 6-2 margin.
Senior Bryan Gieselman overcame a one-set deficit in his No. 1 singles match, but would eventually fall, 6-1, 6-7 (7-2), 6-2. Sophomore Douglas Vaughan dropped a tough third-set tiebreaker in his No. 3 singles match, 11-9.
The Mustangs (6-11, 5-1), who have already clinched a spot into the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals, will look to clinch a #2 seed when they travel to Lebanon Valley for their final regular season match on Saturday, April 29 at 1:00 pm.
