ST. DAVID'S, Pa. - The Stevenson men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking match to host Eastern in its regular season finale, 4-3.
Luke Appleman and
Brandon Nguyen came back from being down 4-5 to win in No. 1 doubles, 7-5. The win pushes their record to 7-3.
In No. 3,
Nate Kelly and
Christian Coulson held a 4-2 lead, but would eventually fall in a tiebreak, 7-6 (9-7).
King Nacua and
Nickolas Valis fell in No. 2 by a 6-2 score, which gave Eastern the point in doubles play.
Appleman opened up singles play with a 7-5, 6-1 win in No. 1, improving his record to 7-5. Kelly improved to 6-4 after his 6-1, 7-5 win in No. 5. Nguyen overcame a one-set deficit to win his No. 3 match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 - evening his record at 6-6.
However, the Mustangs would lose each of their No. 2 and 4 singles matches in three sets. Nacua overcame a one-set deficit, but would eventually fall in No. 2, 6-1, 6-7 (7-4), 6-1. Coulson dropped his No. 4 match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Valis would also fall in his No. 6 match by a 6-2, 6-4 score.
Before taking on top-seeded Albright in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals on April 29, the Mustangs will host Gettysburg (April 24) and Johns Hopkins (April 25).
