Monteiro, Bruno Combine for 12 Goals in 23-11 Victory at Albright

READING, Pa. - Seniors Olivia Monteiro and Tori Bruno combined for 12 goals as the Stevenson women's lacrosse team rolled past Albright in a 23-11 MAC Commonwealth victory Wednesday evening at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.

The win is the fifth straight for the Mustangs (8-6, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) who has scored at least 20 goals in four of the last five. The team has outscored its opponents, 103-35 during the win streak, averaging 20.6 goals per game.

Stevenson, who has never lost the Albright in five all-time meetings, improved to 33-5 in the conference during the regular season since joining the league in 2013. Since that season, the Mustangs are 32-2 during the month of April.

After losing the opening draw control, Monteiro forced a turnover and ran down the field to the opening score just 25 seconds into the game. The Mustangs went on to score eight goals in the opening 10 minutes, including a pair by both senior Brady Heher and freshman Carly Bowes.

Three consecutive free-position goals by the visitors, including a pair by Monteiro gave Stevenson an 11-7 lead after the Lions (8-6, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth) scored five straight goals.

Five goals in the opening 7:36 of the second half gave the Mustangs a 16-7 advantage as senior Mackenzie Reese and freshman Kiely Bunce each picked up their first goal of the game.

A total of eight different players scored a goal for Stevenson. Bruno set a new career-high with her six goals while Monteiro tied her career-best. It is the 22nd career game for Monteiro with at least three goals and seventh for Bruno.

Meanwhile, Heher recorded her 16th career hat trick with three goals while Bowes also found the back of the net three times. Reese finished with a goal and three assists as well as five draw controls.

Freshman Sarah Roerty recorded six draw controls and three ground balls.

The Mustangs outshot Albright, 42-18 and finished 9-for-14 on free-position shots. The team also finished with a season-low two turnovers and were a perfect 14-for-14 on clears.

Stevenson returns to action on Tuesday, April 25 when the Mustangs travel to Lycoming for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
