STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team won two of the three doubles matches, but would eventually fall to Arcadia in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals, 5-2.
Junior Bryan Gieselman and senior Peter Hoblitzell won their match in No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 triumph over Vincent Voulo and Isaac White of Arcadia. The win was their sixth straight, improving their overall record to 15-3 on the year.
The other doubles victory came from junior Troy Derrick and senior Conrad Ellis, who won their 12th straight match in No. 2 doubles by a 9-7 score. Derrick and Ellis are 13-2 as a tandem this season.
In No. 2 singles, Hoblitzell dropped the first set 6-2 against Arcadia's Alex Colton, but would then come back to tie it up after taking the second set by a 6-3 score. Colton would prove to be too much, however, taking the third set by a 6-2 score.
Ellis' 11-match winning streak came to an end after falling in straight sets in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Freshmen Zach Borgerding and Peter Appiah Jr. each lost their matches in straight sets.
Derrick and Gieselman were unable to finish their matches once Arcadia reached 5 wins.
Messiah, who swept Lebanon Valley, will take on Arcadia in the MAC Commonwealth finals on Saturday, May 7.
