Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - The trio of senior Carli Bafford and juniors Brady Heher and Olivia Monteiro combined for 11 goals as the Stevenson women's lacrosse team held on for a 15-14 MAC Commonwealth victory over Widener Saturday afternoon at Edith R. Dixon Field.
With the win, the Mustangs (9-8, 7-1 MAC Commonwealth) secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference playoffs and will host third-seeded Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, May 4. Game time is to be announced.
Stevenson scored the first three goals of the game and jumped out to a 7-1 lead after back-to-back free-position goals by Bafford just over midway through the opening half. Monteiro also scored two goals during the run.
The Pride (5-10, 2-6 MAC Commonwealth) responded with four of the next five goals, but Heher and freshman Jenna Schiponi scored back-to-back goals to end the half with the Mustangs leading by five goals.
Stevenson scored twice in the opening three minutes of the second half to take a 12-5 lead by Widener used a 9-3 run to get back within one with 4:25 remaining. The Mustangs won the ensuing draw control but the Pride picked up a ground ball with 45 seconds remaining.
The Pride got two shots off, including the last attempt on net, but senior Maggie Lawder came up with her ninth save of the game to seal the victory.
Bafford and Monteiro each finished with four goals while Heher added three goals and an assist. Senior Shelby Walter added two points on a goal and an assist.
The Mustangs outshot Widener, 42-29, and held an 18-13 advantage in draw controls.
