GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Stevenson men's tennis team had their 10-match winning streak snapped against host Messiah, 6-3. The Mustangs (12-6, 6-1) won two doubles matches in their first conference loss of the season.
Junior Bryan Gieselman and senior Peter Hoblitzell won their fifth match in a row with an 8-3 win No. 1 doubles. The duo is now 14-3 on the season.
Junior Troy Derrick and senior Conrad Ellis picked up the other doubles victory for Stevenson with an 8-5 win in No. 2 doubles. Derrick and Ellis have won 11-straight matches and are now 12-2 overall.
In No. 3 doubles, freshmen Peter Appiah Jr. and Zach Borgerding dropped a tough match by an 9-7 score.
Junior Conrad Ellis picked up the lone singles win for the Mustangs with an 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 victory in No. 4. Ellis has won 11 matches in a row and is 15-6 overall on the season.
Gieselman overcame a one-set deficit in his No. 1 singles match, but would eventually fall, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.
Derrick took the first set of his No. 3 singles match, but would drop the next two in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 defeat. The loss ends a nine-match winning streak for Derrick, who will finish the regular season with a record of 13-3.
The Mustangs will be the No. 2 seed and face No. 3 Arcadia in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal, which takes places on Wednesday, May 4 at 3:30 pm at the Greenspring Courts.
