Box Score Bayamon, P.R. - Stevenson women's lacrosse junior Olivia Monteiro totaled five points while three different players tallied three goals as the Mustangs posted a convincing 17-5 victory over Colby-Sawyer Monday afternoon at Bayamon Soccer Complex.
The Mustangs (1-4), who dropped their first four games versus ranked opponents, totaled a season-best in goals, shots, ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers. The team also held its opponent to less than 10 shots for the first time since April 9, 2014 versus Hood.
Sophomore Hollie Larrimore scored a free-position goal just 2:22 into the contest to give Stevenson an early lead. The Mustangs would score four more goals, including two by senior Carli Bafford, before the Chargers (0-3) got on the board.
The Mustangs ended the half on an 8-2 run, including seven unanswered over a 9:37 span. Both Bafford and classmate Kellie McLaughlin scored all three of their goals in the opening half.
Stevenson outscored Colby-Sawyer 5-1 in the second half as freshman Dana Stevens scored her first career goal while senior defender Shelby Walter scored her first goal of the season and first since her sophomore season.
Larrimore joined Bafford and McLaughlin with three goals.
Twelve of the Mustangs goals were unassisted as Monteiro totaled three of the team's five assists. The team was also 2-for-4 on free-position shots and held a 35-9 advantage in shots and 23-11 in ground balls.
Stevenson concludes its two-game spring break road trip Wednesday, March 16 when the Mustangs face Springfield beginning at 3:00 p.m.
