The Blue Jays (7-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before freshman Hannah Crist hit a three pointer on the left side to open up scoring for Stevenson (6-3). On the guest's next possession, senior Kameron Ward found junior Kaitlyn VanTash in the paint who drew a foul and made the layup. VanTash finished the three point play to give Stevenson a 6-5 advantage just over three minutes into play.
After four straight points by the hosts, a reverse layup from sophomore Armani Duckett-Mooney made it a one possession game. The teams traded baskets but the Mustangs were unable to regain the lead. The Blue Jays held a 14-11 advantage at the end of the first period.
Elizabethtown struck first in the second quarter as it extended its lead on a layup from Emily Martin, but the Mustangs responded with six points to notch the game, 17-17. After a Mustang turnover and foul, Elizabethtown hit a free throw that sparked a 17-2 run to close the second quarter. Stevenson turned the ball over six times during the stretch as they trailed 34-19 at the half.
Elizabethtown shot 48.3 percent from the floor compared to 32 percent for the Mustangs. The Blue Jays held a 12-5 advantage in forced turnovers, but Stevenson led 18-14 on the boards.
Trailing 38-19 just over two minutes into the second half, Crist got a steal before Ward hit her for another three pointer on the other end. Crist has made at least two three pointers in six of the last seven games.
The Mustangs struggled to convert as they were held to just seven more points in the quarter. Elizabethtown held onto a 51-29 lead entering the final period of play.
Stevenson forced five turnovers and five different Mustangs scored in the first half of the fourth quarter as the guests went on a 9-4 run to cut the score to 55-38. That was as close as they would get as the Blue Jays maintained control and took the win.
Elizabethtown shot 47.2 percent from the floor compared to 33.3 percent for Stevenson. The Blue Jays held a 22-15 advantage in forced turnovers, but the Mustangs led 34-27 on the boards.
Senior Sara Tarbert recorded her ninth straight double double to start the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Crist added 10 points, while Ward totaled 10 rebounds for the second game in a row.
The Mustangs are idle until December 29th when they travel to Nashville, Tennessee where they play Carthage in a two-day tournament.
