Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson field hockey senior Rosemarie Neiva scored a career-high four goals as the Mustangs dominated Hood start to finish with a 7-0 MAC Commonwealth victory Wednesday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
With the win, the Mustangs (4-9, 1-4 MAC Commonwealth) improve their all-time series record to 15-3 versus Hood and have won the last 14 contests. Over the last four meetings, Stevenson has outscored the Blazers, 27-0.
The hosts pressured the Blazers (3-11, 0-5 MAC Commonwealth) early, recording three penalty corners in the opening five minutes. But Stevenson could not record a shot on any of the attempts.
On the sixth consecutive shot in a minute span, the Mustangs were able to get on the board. Following a save by Hauley Poisal on a shot by Neiva, the Hood defender hit the ball into the net for the score.
Neiva added her second of the half as she finished on a centering pass from sophomore Sara McVey who dribbled to the end line before crossing the pass in past the Blazers defenders.
The Mustangs built a 4-0 lead as Neiva scored twice to open the second half with the first coming off a deflection off a penalty corner. Sophomores Marissa Hoffman and Ashley Meyer were credited with the assists.
Neiva then got behind the defense and put away a ball played by freshman Angel-Leigh Sewell who played the ball towards the net and past the goalkeeper.
Neiva is the seventh player to score at least four goals in a game. Dawn McFarland '04 is the only player in program history to total four.
McVey, who has had a point in four consecutive games, broke Neiva's streak with an unassisted tally. Sophomore Alexis Young scored her fifth goal of the game before freshman Emma Adams scored her first career goal to finish the scoring.
The Mustangs outshot Hood, 42-0 and held a 19-0 advantage in penalty corners. Over the last two games, Stevenson has outshot the Blazers, 84-3.
Stevenson continues its three-game home stand on Saturday, October 22 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Widener on Senior Night beginning at 7:00 p.m. In pregame ceremonies, the team will honor seniors Neiva, Blair Bitner, Holli Eppley and Gabriella Brooks.
