Mustangs Drop Commonwealth Conference Match to Hood, 7-1

FREDERICK, Md. - The Stevenson women's tennis team dropped its second Commonwealth Conference match in row, falling to host Hood College by the score of 7-1. Sophomore Ty-Chelle Williams picked up the lone victory for the Mustangs (3-7, 1-3 MAC) with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Hood's Sandra Dziadas in No. 3 singles.

Williams and senior Svetlana Widell were even with their No. 1 doubles opponents 8-8, before falling in the tiebreak, 7-3.

Sophomore Emily Ostrander played her way into a third set tiebreak in No. 5 singles, but would fall to Hood's Aubrey Fetters by the score of 6-7 (7-3), 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).

Widell and junior Ashlyn Hawbaker dropped their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches by the same 6-3, 6-3 score.

Freshman Colleen Martin won six games in her No. 4 singles match before falling 7-5, 6-1.

The Mustangs compete next against Commonwealth Conference opponent Messiah on Saturday, April 18th at 3:30 p.m. on the Greenspring Tennis Courts.
