Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Highlighted by nine different goal scorers, including the first career goal by freshman Jamie Bittner, the Stevenson women's lacrosse team posted an 18-4 Commonwealth Conference victory over Alvernia Wednesday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (8-6, 4-1 MAC), who are on their second four-game win streak of the season, improved to 18-2 in two-plus seasons in the conference while improving to 41-3 over the last three-plus seasons when scoring 10 goals or more.
After the Crusaders (6-6, 2-4 MAC) cut the lead to 3-2, Stevenson scored 13-straight goals including five goals by senior Kathryn Merrick. Merrick, who added an assist and a game-high four draw conrtols, finished with a season-best six points.
The Mustangs scored seven free-position goals, finishing 7-for-11 compared to 0-for-5 for Alvernia. Senior Leanne Bittner stopped three of the Crusaders free-position attempts and totaled nine saves in the game, including eight in the first half.
Sophomore Tori Bruno set a career-high with four goals and has totaled seven in the last three games. She has also totaled five free-position goals this season.
Defensively, senior Meg Gill, who ranks 10th in school history with 64 games played, finished with a game-high two caused turnovers while adding two draw controls and one ground ball. Classmate Taylor Wright added a game-high four ground balls while totaling a caused turnover and a ground ball.
Stevenson hits the road for back-to-back contests beginning with Lebanon Valley on Saturday, April 18. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
