Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson men's soccer team dropped a MAC Commonwealth conference contest versus conference leader Lycoming, 5-0, in a physical contest Tuesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The teams combined for four yellow cards, a red card and 23 fouls as the Mustangs (3-8-1) dropped their fifth-straight game and were shutout for the sixth-straight game.
Just 13:34 into the game, Lycoming was issued a red card, giving Stevenson a one-man advantage that held the rest of the game. But the Warriors (9-1-1), who are receiving votes in the NSCAA Division III top 25 poll, scored just 54 seconds after the card.
The Warriors were fouled inside the box on a breakaway which resulted in a penalty kick that Abdullahi Abdi fired to the left side of the goal, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Lycoming attempted the next four shots of the game before Stevenson had their turn at the goal. On a breakaway, freshman Iliyas Mirza took the Mustangs' only shot of the half from the top of the box, but it was blocked by a Warrior defender.
In the 25th minute, Abdi played the ball through three Mustang defenders to the middle of the box where Jordan Logan blasted the ball into the left side of the net, giving the Warriors a 2-0 halftime lead. Lycoming also held a 10-1 advantage in shots.
Lycoming's momentum continued in the second half as the Warriors scored three goals in a 12 minute span, including two from Keenthy Yeboah. Abdi and Yeboah combined for eight points on three goals and two assists.
The Warriors outshot Stevenson 23-4 and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalie Ryan Callinan finished with eight saves.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, October 10, when they host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Widener beginning at 7:00 p.m.
