Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - The Stevenson women's basketball team used a 21-7 run to erase a 14-point second half deficit, however Widener would finished the game on a 7-1 run en route to a 68-63 victory over the Mustangs Wednesday at Schwartz Center.
The Mustangs (11-9, 9-4 MAC) made just nine second half field goals while shooting just 55.2 percent from the free throw line for the game.
After falling behind 9-2 early, Stevenson used a 8-0 run, sparked by a three-pointer from junior Kayleigh Guzek, to take its first lead of the game at 10-9.
The Pride (11-9, 6-7 MAC) would again push their lead to seven with 5:48 remaining after two made free throws from Kristina Reiter but a layup by junior Ty Bender at the 1:31 mark cut the Mustangs deficit to two.
Junior Kayla Kelly would hit a free throw line jumper with three seconds remaining in the first half to go into the break down 33-30.
Nearly a third of Widener's first half points came from the free throw line where they were 10-for-14 while Kelly and Bender totaled 19 of Stevenson's 30 points, combining to shoot 9-of-17 from the field.
A layup and steal by Bender cut the Mustang's deficit to one but the Pride went on a 10-4 run to open the half and give them a 43-34 lead.
The Pride would push their lead to 14 before sophomore Stephanie Martinez connected on Stevenson's first made field goal in 6:35 to stop an 11-2 run.
The Mustangs would go on an 11-2 run of their own to cut the deficit to two with 4:04 remaining in the second half. The team would tie the game at 61 with 1:33 remaining following two made free throws by sophomore Caitlin Roy.
However, conference leading scorer Jen Egee would score back-to-back layups followed by two free throws to give Widener its first win in five games.
The Pride held a 55-31 rebounding edge while the Mustangs scored 27 points off 28 turnovers.
Bender, who is averaging 15.0 points in the last three games, finished with a season-high 17 points while Kelly totaled 16.
Reiter finished with a game-high 20 points while Egee totaled a double double with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, February 8 when it hosts a Commonwealth Conference contest with Lycoming beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Warriors defeated the Mustangs 66-61 on Jan. 19.
