Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's basketball juniors Kyarra Harmon and Kayla Kelly combined for 34 points while junior Kayleigh Guzek totaled a career-high 10 rebounds as the Mustangs fell to Elizabethtown 72-66 in a Commonwealth Conference contest Wednesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (13-11, 11-6 MAC) will be the fourth seed in the Commonwealth Conference tournament and host fifth-seeded Lycoming on Monday, February 24. It is the first time since the 2006-07 season that the team will host a playoff game and just the third time since then they will appear in the conference tournament.
With the win, the Blue Jays (19-4, 13-4) totaled their 1,000 program win becoming only the third women's basketball program in any division to reach this milestone joining Division I Tennessee and Louisiana Tech.
The first half featured five ties and five lead changes as neither team led by more than five points. Stevenson held its largest lead of the game at 16-11 with 10:10 remaining in the first half.
Following two made free throws by Kelly, Elizabethtown closed the half on a 9-2 run for a 30-25 halftime lead, one it would not relinquish.
The Blue Jays extended their lead to 15 with 12:26 remaining in the second half after a layup by Taylor Kreider. Stevenson however would get as close as six with 1:17 remaining following two made free throws by junior Ty Bender.
Harmon and Kelly also combined for 15 rebounds and eight steals while Guzek added nine points.
Kreider scored 20 of her game-high 24 points in the second half as she was limited to just seven minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. She also grabbed 11 rebounds for her 13th double double of the season.
Elizabethtown's 22 turnovers marked the 19th time this season that a Stevenson opponent has had at least 20 turnovers. The Mustangs are forcing 23.6 turnovers a game this year.
The Mustangs wraps up the regular season on Saturday, February 22 when they travels to Lebanon Valley for a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Mustangs defeated the Dutchmen 55-52 on Jan. 11.
