Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y. - Stevenson women's ice hockey sophomore Katie Abbott scored her fourth goal of the season with less than four minutes remaining in the third period, but Oswego State scored three first period tallies to lead the Lakers to a 6-1 victory Saturday at Campus Center Ice Arena.
The loss was just the second in the last five road games for the Mustangs (6-13-1) who are still just one win shy of surpassing last year's total.
Oswego State (11-6-1) outshot Stevenson 48-22, including 16-4 in the first period as the Lakers took a 3-0 lead. Mady Paul opened the scoring 7:06 into the game with her second goal of the season before Brennan Butler scored the game-winner and her first of the year just 17 seconds later.
Olivia Boersen gave the Lakers a three-goal lead at the end of the first with her fifth tally of the season with just 25 seconds remaining.
Neither team found the back of the net in the second before Alli Ullrich scored her first of the year on the power play just 4:32 into the third. Lizzie Marks scored at 11:07 to increase Oswego State's lead to 5-0.
Abbott broke the shutout bid at 16:30 with a power play goal off an assist from sophomore Megan Alexander who picked up her team-leading 11th of the season. The tally marked the third-straight game in which the Mustangs have scored on the power play. During that time, the team is 5-for-19 with the extra skater.
Jocelyn St. Clair capped the scoring at 18:53 with a short-handed goal, the third allowed by Stevenson this season.
Sophomore Sarah Modzelewski finished with a season-high 42 saves, including 16 in the third period. Tori Trovato made 21 for the Lakers.
The Mustangs finished 1-for-5 on the power play compared to 1-for-8 for Oswego State.
The two teams conclude their two-game series on Sunday. Opening face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
