Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Stevenson women's basketball team used a 17-2 run over the final 5:32, as the Mustangs erased a nine-point second half deficit en route to a 67-60 victory over Arcadia in a Commonwealth Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.
The trio of seniors Kayleigh Guzek and Ty Bender and sophomore Sara Tarbert combined to score all 17 points during the run as the Mustangs (4-2, 1-0 MAC) posted their first road win in three tries this season.
The host Knights (5-3, 2-1 MAC) led 23-16 with 6:38 remaining in the first half before Stevenson rallied to take the lead at 31-30 following two free throws by Tarbert. But Arcadia finished the half scoring seven of the final eight points to take a five point lead into the break.
Arcadia held its largest lead at nine with 12:01 left in the second half following back-to-back jumpers by Dominique Hassinger.
A layup by Maureen Fiocca gave the Knights a 58-50 lead but the Mustangs defense would force nine missed shots and three turnovers as Stevenson went on its late run.
Arcadia made its lone basket during that stetch to cut the lead to three with 27 seconds left but Guzek and Bender made all four free throws to seal the game.
Guzek finished with a career-high 20 points, including a career-best four three-point field goals. Meanwhile, Tarbert posted her fifth-straight double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds with seven of those rebounds coming during the 17-2 run. She has also totaled a least one block and one steal in all six games this season.
Bender finished with 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Stevenson returns to action on Tuesday, December 16 when the Mustangs host a Commonwealth Conference contest versus Widener beginning at 6:00 p.m.
