Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Stevenson women's basketball team scored the game's first eight points and led for the first seven minutes, but led by 26 points from Anna Hackett, Salisbury rallied and withstood a strong second-half effort en route to an 80-70 victory Tuesday.
The Mustangs (2-2) shot 34.3 percent from the floor in the first half and were just 2-for-12 from three-point range while the Sea Gulls outscored them 32-17 over the final 15 minutes to take a 12-point halftime lead.
Hackett scored 15 of her game-high 26 points in the opening 20 minutes. She had six consecutive points during an 8-0 run that gave Salisbury its first lead, highlighted by a jumper at 12:38 that gave the team the lead for good, 13-12.
The Sea Gulls (5-0), who are receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, have won five-straight in the series. In five career games against Stevenson, Hackett is averaging 19.6 points per game and has scored at least 20 points in each of the last three.
A quick 16-10 run over the first six minutes of the second half, capped by two free throws from senior Kayleigh Guzek, pulled the Mustangs within six, but a quick 7-0 run by Salisbury over the next 56 seconds pushed their deficit to 13.
Following two free throws from senior Kyarra Harmon, Stevenson pulled within six for a second time at 60-54 with 8:20 remaining, but that would be as close as it could get as back-to-back layups by the Sea Gulls pushed their lead back to 10 with 7:01 to play.
The Mustangs scored 12 of their first 25 second-half points from the free throw line where they were 12-for-15.
Meanwhile, Salisbury sealed the victory at the free throw line, going 6-for-7 in the final minute.
Sophomore Sara Tarbert totaled her third-straight double double for Stevenson with 15 points and 15 rebounds. She is the first Mustang since Tanisha Foster during the 2007-08 season to post double doubles in three consecutive games. Foster did it seven times that year, including four-straight from January 26 to February 6.
Tarbert was one of four Mustangs in double figure scoring as Harmon had 14 and Guzek 13. Senior Kayla Kelly added 10 points.
Sarah Seipp had 18 points, five rebounds and five steals for the Sea Gulls and was 4-for-6 from three-point range.
Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, November 30 when it hosts a non-conference contest versus Virginia Wesleyan beginning at 2:00 p.m.
