Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson women's basketball team forced 33 turnovers, including 18 in the first half, as the Mustangs posted their first-ever win over No. 17 Lebanon Valley, the three-time defending Commonwealth Conference champions, 55-52 Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
With the win, the Mustangs (7-6, 5-1) reached their win total from a year ago and handed the Dutchmen their first conference loss. More importanly, it moves the team into a three-way tie for first place with Lebanon Valley and Elizabethtown.
Both teams struggled early as they combined to go 3-for-18 for just six points and ten turnovers in the games first 7:32.
After trailing 7-4 midway through the first half, sophomore Caitlin Roy and junior Kayleigh Guzek hit back-to-back three-pointers to give Stevenson a 10-7 lead, one they would never relinquish.
The Mustangs led by as many as 11 in the first half and took a 25-17 lead heading into the break.
The teams traded baskets to open the second half and the Dutchmen (11-2, 5-1 MAC) would get as close as one with 9:11 remaining in the second half.
Lebanon Valley connected on 18-of-22 free throws in the second half as they were in the bonus at the 11:23 mark.
Stevenson held an eight point lead with 2:02 remaining after a steal and layup by junior Ty Bender. But the Dutchmen made five free throws to cut their deficit to two with 13 seconds remaining.
Roy made one of two free throws to push the lead to three with six seconds left before Kiely Chaklos' three-point attempt to tie the game fell short as time expired.
Juniors Kayla Kelly and Kyarra Harmon combined for 19 points and nine rebounds while sophomore Ruth Casadevall chipped in seven.
The Dutchmen were led by Caitlin Bach who totaled 17 points and eight rebounds.
Lebanon Valley outrebounded the Mustangs 47-24, while Stevenson totaled 22 points off turnovers.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, January 15 when they host Messiah in a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 6:00 p.m. Last season the Falcons won both meetings versus the Mustangs.
