Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Stevenson football senior Jeromie Miller (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) caught six passes for 114 yards and a 65-yard touchdown, but Delaware Valley forced four second-half turnovers, three of which led to 13 points as the No. 22-ranked Aggies rallied for a 41-23 victory Saturday at James Work Memorial Stadium.
The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Mustangs (3-1, 2-1 MAC) dating back to last season.
After forcing a three-and-out to start the game, Delaware Valley (4-0, 3-0 MAC) drove 80 yards in 12 plays, capped by a 2-yard touchdown run by Kyle Schuberth.
Trailing 7-0 with 5:37 remaining in the first quarter, Stevenson scored the next 17-straight points to take a 10-point lead with 7:45 to play in the second quarter following an 11-yard pass from sophomore John Gasparovic (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) to freshman Cortez Taylor (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams).
The touchdown was the first of Taylor's career and came after sophomore Billy Lewis (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's) picked off a pass for the fourth consecutive game.
On the ensuing possession, the Aggies totaled an 18-play, 75-yard drive that used 7:21 to pull within three at the half, 17-14 on another 2-yard run by Schuberth with 24 seconds remaining.
The key turning point in the game came on the first possession of the second half. After holding Delaware Valley on third down at its own 47, Stevenson fumbled the ensuing punt which was recovered by the Aggies at the Mustang 13-yard line.
Four plays later, Schuberth found the end zone for the third time on a 1-yard run to put Delaware Valley back in front, 21-17 with 11:06 left in the third quarter.
From there, the Aggies picked off two Gasparovic passes on back-to-back drives which they converted into field goals by reigning MAC Special Teams Player of the Week Brandon Snyder to increase their lead to 27-17 with 2:22 remaining in the third.
Delaware Valley pushed its lead to 34-17 at the start of the fourth quarter following a 2-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Wilmer to Max Stella with 13:07 remaining.
Stevenson seemed to regain the momentum on its ensuing drive as Gasparovic found Miller for a 65-yard touchdown which marked the longest scoring play of the season for the Mustangs. It was also the first fourth-quarter points allowed by the Aggies in four games this season.
Stevenson went for two and came up short, leaving the team down by 11 with just over 11 minutes remaining. However, the Mustangs could not take advantage of the momentum after holding Delaware Valley to its second three-and-out before Gasparovic threw his third interception of the day, giving the Aggies the ball at their own 38-yard line.
Schuberth added his school-record fourth touchdown of the game with only 47 seconds left, giving Delaware Valley its 25th win in the last 30 at home. He finished with 214 yards rushing and four scores, giving him 384 yards and eight touchdowns in three career meetings with Stevenson.
Junior Marcus Holley (York, Pa./York County) led the Mustangs with 53 yards rushing while freshman Trey Lee (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) had 52. Gasparovic was 16-of-33 for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
Stevenson looks for its fourth-straight win at home next Saturday, October 5 when it hosts No. 24 Widenerat Mustang Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m. Today, the defending MAC champion Pride lost at home to Lycoming, who was picked to win the MAC this season, 16-14.
