Box Score TOWSON, Md. - Highlighted by goals from juniors Alison Kagel (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) and Caitlin Dempsey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) just 1:58 apart in the first half, the Stevenson field hockey team won its third-straight game with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Goucher Tuesday at Beldon Field.
With the win, Stevenson (4-1) matched the best start to a season in school history, equaling the mark set in 2010. That year was also the last time that the Mustangs won three-straight as they started the season 3-0.
Stevenson also posted its second consecutive shutout and through five games this season, has outscored its opponents, 11-4.
Sophomore Katie Cavanaugh (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall), who was named Commonwealth Conference Defender of the Week on Monday, extended her scoreless streak to 160:49 and her record to 3-0 this season after getting the start and playing the entire first half. She gave way to freshman Gabriella Brooks (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) who made two second-half saves.
Kagel started the scoring just under 22 minutes into the game when she scored off an assist from Dempsey. It was Kagel's second goal of the season and second game-winner after she gave the team a 2-1 victory at Neumann in the season opener on August 30.
Dempsey, the Mustangs' leading scorer with 10 points this season, picked up her fourth goal of the year with an unassisted tally less than two minutes later.
Stevenson capped the scoring when senior Allyson Moody (New Windsor, Md./Westminster) netted her second of the season and the sixth of her career with less than seven minutes remaining.
Demie Huffman totaled 12 saves for the Gophers (0-4) who have now lost nine-straight versus Stevenson while being outscored 23-4 during that time.
The Mustangs look for a school-record fourth consecutive win on Saturday when they travel to Chambersburg, Pa., for a 1:00 p.m., contest with Wilson.
