Mustangs Down Albright 16-7, Extend Winning Streak to 11

READING, Pa. - The Stevenson women's lacrosse team had four players score three goals as the Mustangs defeated Commonwealth opponent Albright Saturday at Gene L. Shirk Stadium, 16-7 to keep pace for first place.

Stevenson (11-1, 4-0 MAC) is now just one win shy of tying the most wins in a season with four regular season games remaining. The 2008 team finished with a 12-5 record.

The team continues its record-breaking streak, winning their 11th straight game. Since their loss to then No. 2 Salisbury to open the season, the Mustangs have outscored their opponents 154-74.

Stevenson scored quickly to open the game, just 40 seconds in on a goal by junior Leah Warner (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) for the 100th goal of her career.

Albright (8-4, 2-3 MAC) responded with goals from Amanda Smith and Erin Farrell, the second and first leading scorers in the conference, respectively.

It was the first deficit for the Mustangs since a 1-0 deficit to open the game against Goucher on April 3. During their win streak they have trailed for only 44:44.

Junior Mandy Marston (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) opened the second half scoring as Stevenson outscored Alrbight 13-5.

Marston tallied three goals and one assist all in the second half while junior Marissa Meiklejohn (Severn, Md./Old Mill) scored three goals back-to-back-to-back in a 5:21 span while also adding two assists.

Warner led all players with seven points on three goals and four assists. She now has 102 career goals to move her into a tie for seventh all-time with Colleen Baughman. She is three assists shy of second place all-time.

Junior Kathryn Merrick (Bel Air, Md./Forest Hill) added six points on three goals and three assists.

Defensively, the Mustangs were led by sophomore Amanda LeGar (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and sophomore Meg Gill (White Hall, Md./North Harford) who had four caused turnovers each. Sophomore Leanne Bittner (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) tied her career-high with 13 saves.

The Mustangs host a crucial Commonwealth game against Messiah on Wednesday, April 17 beginning at 4 p.m. The winner will take sole possesion of first place in the conference.
