Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer junior Andrew Garner (Owings, Md./Northern) scored his second goal of the season just 1:59 into the second half as the Mustangs opened Commonwealth Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Lycoming Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.
With the win, Stevenson (6-5-1, 1-0-0 MAC) remained unbeaten in seven games at home this year, improving to 6-0-1 while outscoring its opponents, 17-1. The team has posted six shutouts, including five-straight and has not allowed a goal at home since the 25th minute against Southern Vermont, extending its scoreless streak to 535:43.
The Mustangs are 10-3-1 in their last 14 home games dating back to last season.
After a scoreless first half in which the Warriors held a 6-4 advantage in shots, Stevenson capitalized on its first attempt of the second as Garner scored off a header from senior Steve Hamilton (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) at 46:59.
The Mustangs, who were picked to finish sixth in the Commonwealth Conference this season, outshot Lycoming 7-4 in the second half and held an 11-10 advantage for the game.
For Garner, it was his first goal since August 31 in a 6-1 win over Southern Vermont and the third of his career.
In goal, junior Pat Carey (Brooklyn Park, Md./North County) picked up his third win in four decisions this season after making five saves.
Connor Keenan finished with three saves for the Warriors (5-4-1, 0-1-0 MAC).
Stevenson looks to continue its success at home on Tuesday when its hosts a Commonwealth Conference contest with Widener at Mustang Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
