OWINGS MILLS, Md. – At McDonogh School on Saturday, the women's tennis team fell to Salisbury University, 0-9, in the morning and to Frostburg State University, 3-6 in the afternoon.
Despite the losses, senior Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) led the Mustang team, posting two of the three winning games at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. Eyler teamed up with junior Susannah Hoblitzell (Towson, Md./Towson) again this season at No. 1 doubles to post a 9-7 victory over Frostburg. At No. 2 singles, Eyler won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
The other win for the Mustangs came from sophomore Katie Fersch (Mechanicsburg, Md./Chopticon), who battling an injury, won at No. 4 singles in a 7-4 tiebreaker for the second set. Fersch's first set score was 6-4.
Hoblitzell was also able to post five games at No. 1 singles, but eventually fell in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3.
After dropping two conference matches this afternoon, the Mustangs' record drops to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Stevenson's next match is against the Spartans of York College of Pennsylvania on Monday at 3:30PM.
