ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The sixth-seeded Stevenson women's tennis team finished its 2011-12 season on Saturday, falling on the road third-seeded St. Mary's (Md.) in the first round of the CAC Women's Tennis Championship, 6-3.
The Mustangs (6-9), who lost to the Seahawks just six days ago by an 8-1 margin, were led by sophomore Jordan Rupard (North Beach, Md./Southern) who recorded two victories at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.
After losing the first set 7-5, Rupard edged Alyssa Stine at No. 3 singles by winning the second 7-5 and the third set in a tiebreaker, 10-2.
Rupard also teamed up with junior Megan Heagy (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) for the fifth time this season at No. 2 doubles and remained unbeaten with an 8-4 victory over Stine and Lauren Rost.
Heagy, playing in her first singles match of the season, fell at No. 6 singles to Chelsea Bradcovich in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
Stevenson's only other win came from senior Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) at No. 2 singles where she defeated Emily Stumpfig in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
St. Mary's (15-6) advances to the semifinals where it will face second-seeded Salisbury on Monday, April 23.
