Grammer, Meiklejohn Lead No. 19 Mustangs to 11-7 Win in CAC First Round

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's lacrosse senior Laura Grammer (Parkville, Md/Perry Hall) and sophomore Marissa Meiklejohn (Severn, Md./Old Mill) each scored three goals as the 19th-ranked Mustangs posted an 11-7 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) in the first round of the CAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Saturday at Mustang Stadium.

The Mustangs (9-6) scored five free-position goals and won for the sixth time in seven home games this season.

Grammer finished with a game-high four points and was 3-for-4 on free position attempts while adding an assist and three draw controls.

Stevenson jumped out to a 4-0 lead with the game's first goals in just six minutes, two of which came from Grammer. Sophomore Olivia Baker (Perry Hall, Md./Catholic) started the scoring for the Mustangs with her first goal of the season. She finished the game with her first two goals and two points.

Stevenson led 7-3 at the half, scoring four goals on free positions. Grammer and Meiklejohn each had two goals while sophomore Leah Warner (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) also scored to extend her goal-scoring streak to 10 games. During that time, she has totaled 24 goals and 39 points as the team has posted a 6-4 record.

The Mustangs scored three of the first four goals to start the second half to take their largest lead of the game at six following Baker's second goal of the game with 12:04 remaining.

Defensively, Stevenson was led by seniors Sarah Pincus (New Market, Md./Linganore) and Lauren Taguding (Baltimore, Md/Towson). Pincus finished with three caused turnovers to go along with two groundballs while Taguding tallied two caused turnovers, four groundballs, and four draw controls.

Senior Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) finished with seven saves.

The Seahawks (8-9) were led by Lauren Bennett and Amelia Tenberg who scored two goals each. Colleen Simpson was credited with 10 saves.

Stevenson will face a rematch with top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Salisbury in the semifinals on Tuesday, April 24.
