Women's Tennis Celebrates Senior Day With Win Over Hood, 5-4

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – In a close battle between Stevenson (5-6, 2-4 CAC) and conference rival, Hood College (5-10, 1-4 CAC), the Mustangs edged the Blazers, 5-4. Prior to the start of the match, the team's only seniors, Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and Michelle Huber (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) were honored for their four year performances and committment to the team.

After the first eight games, the Mustangs and Blazers were tied at 4-4. The deciding match came down to freshman Nichole Young (Smyrna, DE/Smyrna) at No. 6 singles. Young defeated Hood's Nalla Tejera in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

The other singles wins came from Eyler and freshman Svetlana Widell (St. Michael's, Md./St. Michael's). Not conceding a single game, Eyler defeated Casey Miller at No. 2 singles, 6-0 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Widell defeated Sandra Dziadas, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, the No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Jordan Rupard (North Beach, Md./Southern) and junior Megan Heagy (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) teamed up to defeat Miller and Kirsten Freind, 8-6. Also posting an 8-6 victory was the No. 3 doubles team of Huber and Widell.

The Mustangs resume action on Sunday where they travel to St. Mary's City to face conference rival, St. Mary's College of Maryland beginning at 3:30 p.m.
