OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Mustangs took on local rival, McDaniel College, and fell in a close battle, 4-5. After the first eight matches of the afternoon, the Mustangs were tied with the Green Terror, 4-4. The deciding match came down to senior Michelle Huber (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) at No. 6 singles. After falling 5-7 in the first set, Huber rallied the second set to 6-6. Huber fell in a tiebreaker, 3-7, against McDaniel's Elise O'Meara.
Wins for the Mustangs came from the No. 1 doubles team of senior Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and junior Susannah Hoblitzell (Towson, Md./Towson). The duo defeated McDaniel's Brittany Sterling and Carissa Grove. This marks the team's third consecutive win at No. 1 doubles.
In singles action, Hoblitzell came from behind after dropping her first set at No. 1 singles to defeat Sterling in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Eyler also won at No. 2 singles where she defeated Grove in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
The fourth win for the Mustangs came from sophomore Jordan Rupard (North Beach, Md./Southern) at No. 3 singles. Rupard defeated McDaniel's Devon Hamric in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
The Mustangs resume action on Thursday when they host conference rival, Hood College, for their Senior Day. Come support the team on the Greenspring Tennis Courts as they honor their seniors at 3:30PM.
