WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stevenson women's basketball junior Sam Murray (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) scored a game-high 16 points, including 12 on four three-pointers, as the Mustangs picked up their 10th win of the season with a 60-51 road victory over Trinity (D.C.) Saturday at the Trinity Center.
The win marked the first 10-win season for Stevenson (10-13) in five years since the team went 19-10 during the 2007-08 season.
Murray made a season-high four three-pointers, going 4-for-6, and finished one point shy of her career-high. She totaled 13 of her 16 points in the second half after sitting most of the first half with three fouls.
Senior Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) had nine points and six rebounds while junior Rayshell Parker (Odenton, Md./Meade) totaled eight points and six rebounds. Freshman Kayla Kelly (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.
The Mustangs, who never trailed in Saturday's game, led 31-18 at the half after holding the Tigers (12-7) to just 5-of-26 shooting from the floor in the first half and forcing 17 turnovers which led to 15 points.
Stevenson led by as many as 18 points with 18:27 remaining in the second half following Murray's second three-pointer. She was 3-for-3 from three-point range in the half.
Stefonie Kelly led Trinity with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kamillah Al-Warith added 10 points while Christa Burgess also had a team-high eight rebounds.
The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday with a CAC road contest at Mary Washington. Stevenson will officially earn the sixth and final seed in the CAC Women's Basketball Championship with a win or a Frostburg State loss at home against Marymount (Va.). Both games tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
The Mustangs' only previous appearance in the CAC tournament came in the team's first year in the league in 2007-08.
