OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson women's lacrosse senior Megan Weiss (Odenton/Seton) totaled three goals, including two in the second half, but the Mustangs could not overcome a 13-goal halftime deficit as they fell at home to No. 12 Catholic Saturday at Caves Athletics Complex, 19-8.

The loss snapped a three-game home winning streak for Stevenson (6-4) who suffered their fourth loss against a team ranked in the IWLCA Division III Poll.

An unassisted goal from Mary Robinson just 57 seconds into the game sparked a six-goal run by the Cardinals before Weiss put the Mustangs on the board with a free-position goal with 18:57 remaining in the opening half.

Stevenson struggled to maintain possession in the offensive zone and did not score again as Catholic closed the half with eight consecutive goals en route to a 14-1 halftime lead.

The Cardinals (4-1) outshot the Mustangs 20-9 in the first half and won 11-of-16 draw controls.

Catholic scored five of the first seven goals of the second half to stretch its lead to as many as 16 with 12:03 left in the game before Stevenson closed the game by scoring the final five goals, including two by Weiss and junior Emily Gartrell (Jarretsville/North Harford).

Junior Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park/Seton Keough) and freshman Alyssa Russell (Towson/Loch Raven) combined to make four saves in goal for the Mustangs.

Mary Swarthout totaled seven points on four goals and three assists for the Cardinals while Katie Buonpastore added three goals and three assists. Gabby Sena made nine saves, including seven in the first half.

The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday when they host a CAC contest with York (Pa.) at 3:30 p.m.
