OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse junior Ray Witte (Annapolis/St. Peter and Paul) won 21-of-30 face-offs, two shy of the school record, and scored his second goal of the season as the No. 2-ranked Mustangs used a seven goal second quarter en route to a 16-11 victory over No. 15 Stevens Wednesday at Caves Athletics Complex.

The win was the 23rd-straight regular season victory and 13th consecutive at home for Stevenson (6-0) who won its third game in as many years against the Ducks.

Witte's 21 face-off wins were two shy of the school record held by former assistant coach Brandon Hastings who had 23 in a 28-2 win over Neumann at home on May 1, 2007.

Matt Smoot had 20 wins in a 22-5 victory over Misericordia at home on Apr. 9, 2005.

Witte moved past Smoot with his 21st win and career-high 12th ground ball after junior Kyle Moffitt (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) scored his career-high fourth goal of the game with 40 seconds remaining.

Stevens (4-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first six minutes on goals by Nicolas Philipi and Alex Hofrichter before the Mustangs scored four unanswered to take a 4-2 lead.

Hofrichter scored his second of the game at 12:19 of the second quarter before assisting Kevin Rose to tie the game at 4-4 with 11:27 to play.

Wednesday's game featured two ties and three lead changes, the last coming on Moffitt's second goal of the game with 11:13 left in the second quarter that gave Stevenson a 5-4 lead.

The Ducks scored the first three-straight goals to start the fourth quarter to cut the Mustang advantage to three, 13-10 with 10:23 remaining. Both team's exchanged tallies over the next five minutes before goals by senior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) and Moffitt capped the scoring in the final four.

Gustowarow, whose first career goal also came at home in a 13-12 loss at home to No. 1 Salisbury on Apr. 5, 2008, scored just nine seconds after junior Neal Barthelme (Towson/Dulaney) netted his first goal in the last three games with a man-advantage at 8:42.

After going 2-27 with a man-advantage the last three games, Stevenson was 3-for-8 with the extra man on Wednesday.

Kazimer led the way with three goals and three assists and now has 99 assists for his career. Junior Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) had one goal and two assists and now has 117 goals in three seasons, only five short of Eric Schmith's school record.

Not to be overlooked is senior Shane Clift (Baltimore/North Carroll) who had a career-high two goals or senior Geoff Hebert (Lutherville/Dulaney) who made 12 saves, including six in the third quarter.

The Mustangs totaled at least 50 shots for the third time this season as they outshot Stevens 50-29, including 30-13 in the first half.

Chris Laurita led the Ducks with two goals and four assists while Hofrichter had three goals and one assist. Dave Decker finished with 16 saves.

Stevenson travels to No. 18 Lynchburg on Saturday looking to avenge a 14-8 road loss to the Hornets on Mar. 22, 2008. The Mustangs won last season's meeting, 12-10 at home.
