WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Sophomore
Spencer Kraus (Mt. Airy/South Carroll) scored a
career-high four goals, including three in the second half to tie
the game as the No. 19-ranked Stevenson women's lacrosse team
rallied from a four-goal deficit for an 11-10 victory over
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Monday night.
The Mustangs (6-1) trailed 9-6 with 10:20 remaining before
scoring five of the game's final six goals, including
three-straight in a span of 2:04 to tie the game at 9-9.
After the Athenas' Sarah Dick scored her second of the game to
push the lead to three, senior Lauren Zegowitz
(Gaithersburg/Damascus) netted her lone goal at 9:55
before Kraus scored back-to-back to tie the game at 9:23 and 7:51.
Zegowitz then assisted on the third goal of the game by junior
Lisa Baker (Westminster/Westminster) to give
Stevenson its first lead of the game with 5:48 left before
sophomore Kelli Battista (Elkridge/Long Reach)
scored what proved to the game-winner at 3:21.
Sophomore Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park/Seton
Keough) totaled five of her eight saves in the second
half, including two on free position shots in the final 1:11 to
preserve the one-goal victory.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-1) scored six of its 10 goals on free
position shots as the team was 6-for-15 as a result of 28 Mustang
fouls. However, after making 4-of-7 in the first half, the Athenas
were just 2-of-8 in the second with four of their last five in the
final 20 minutes turned away by Schroeder.
The Mustangs also trailed by four in the first half before
junior Megan Weiss (Odenton/Seton) scored her
second goal with just seven seconds remaining to cut the deficit to
three at halftime, 7-4.
Kraus also had four goals in a 23-8 victory at Wesley on Apr. 1,
2008.
Devon Scott led the Athenas with four goals while Katie
Campbell-Morrison had six saves.
Stevenson wraps up its two-game spring break trip with a contest
against No. 20 Nazareth on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
