SALISBURY, Md. - Stevenson women's basketball
freshman forward Rayshell Parker (Fort
Meade/Meade) totaled a career-high 13 points, but the
Mustangs could not overcome 26 turnovers and a 26.1 second half
shooting percentage in a 66-55 loss to Salisbury Saturday afternoon
at the Maggs Center.
Stevenson (5-16, 3-11 CAC) rallied from a 10-point first half
deficit to take its first lead at 42-41 on a jumper by sophomore
guard Meliasa Robinson (Temple Hills/Potomac) with
14:58 remaining in the second.
The Mustangs extended their advantage to four following two free
throws by junior guard JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose
Christian) and a three-pointer by freshman guard
Sam Murray (Reisterstown/St. Paul's) at 10:54.
However, the Sea Gulls (9-12, 6-7 CAC) responded with a 12-0 run
to regain the lead en route to posting their fourth win in the last
six games since a 55-53 loss at Stevenson on January 20 capped a
nine-game losing streak.
After trailing by just three at the half, Stevenson made just
6-of-23 attempts from the floor in the second while committing 14
turnovers.
Parker's surpassed her previous career-high of 11 by going
6-of-6 from the free throw line in the second half. She also added
six rebounds.
Murray scored a career-high 10 points for the second time in the
last three games, equaling her mark set at Mary Washington 10 days
ago, while junior forward Daniela Poss (Brookeville/Good
Counsel) posted career-highs with eight points and eight
rebounds.
Chante McKinney led all scorers with 16 points and was one of
four Sea Gulls in double figures. She also totaled eight steals.
Kylie Hall added six points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Stevenson returns home to face York (Pa.) on Wednesday. The
Mustangs will help raise money in the fight against breast cancer
by taking part in the WBCA's Pink Zone. To show support, all fans
