SALISBURY, Md. - Stevenson men's basketball
freshman forward Danny Murphy (Severn/Glen Burnie)
scored a career-high 21 points, including 14 in the second half,
but the Mustangs could not overcome a second half in which they
shot 33.3 percent from the floor in falling to Salisbury, 70-58
Saturday at the Maggs Center.
Junior forward Patrick Lewis (Timonium/Dulaney)
added 12 points for Stevenson who trailed by just two at the half,
33-31. Murphy and Lewis combined to score 22 of the team's 31
points and were 8-of-12 from the floor. All but four of the
Mustangs' points came off the bench.
The Sea Gulls (12-9, 8-5 CAC) opened the second half with a 19-9
run over the first six minutes to push its lead to 12 en route to
their fourth-straight win over Stevenson and sixth in the last
seven games.
In addition to shooting 9-of-27 from the floor, the Mustangs
(2-21, 2-12 CAC) were also outrebounded by 12.
Murphy added eight of Stevenson's 22 rebounds while Lewis had
four. Freshman forward Garrett Jones (New Windsor/South
Carroll) posted a career-high six points to go along with
two rebounds while freshman guard Zach Cooke (Morgantown,
W. Va./Cushing Academy) totaled seven points, two shy of
his career-high.
Devin Jones finished with 23 points to lead all scorers and Mike
Maczko posted a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Greg
Palmer had 19 points.
Stevenson returns home to face York (Pa.) on Wednesday. The
Mustangs will help raise money in the fight against breast cancer
by taking part in the WBCA's Pink Zone. To show support, all fans
