Box Score GLASSBORO, N.J. - Rowan scored both of its goals in a span of 3:38 midway through the first half, including one from leading scorer Jess Babice, and that proved to be the difference as the Profs posted a 2-0 victory over Stevenson Saturday at Rowan Soccer Field in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
The loss snapped a four-game unbeaten streak for the Mustangs (12-7-1) and evened their all-time NCAA tournament record to 3-3 in three appearances.
Meanwhile, Rowan (16-2-2) remained undefeated in eight games at home and unbeaten in 11 non-conference contests this season.
The Profs, who are making their eighth appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship and sixth-straight, will host two-time defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Messiah on Sunday after the Falcons ran their unbeaten streak to 72 consecutive with a 4-0 victory over Manhattanville in Saturday's first contest.
Miranda Donnian gave Rowan a 1-0 lead at 24:48 when she received a pass from Fink at the top of the box and snuck it inside the lower rigth post.
Babice then corralled a loose ball in front of the Stevenson net at 28:26 fired it into the upper left corner to add to the advantage.
Rowan held a slim 11-10 edge in shots, including a 7-2 margin in the first half. The Mustangs doubled up the Profs in the second half, but Deana Wood posted three of her four saves to pick up her 13th win of the season and 10th by shutout.
Junior Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park) and sophomore Lauren Weitzman (Westminster/Winters Mill) each played one half and stopped one shot apiece.
Saturday marked the end of the careers of seniors Allison Humphries (Bel Air/John Carroll), Kaitlyn Amos (Baltimore/Catholic), Jess Celmer (Baltimore/Carmel), Brittany Bangert (White Marsh/Eastern Tech) and Heather Redding (Street/Harford).
Over the last four seasons, Stevenson has won 46 games, the second-most over any four-year period in school history, made three-straight postseason appearances, won two consecutive CAC regular season titles and a CAC championship in 2010, becoming the first women's team to do so.
