STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson women's basketball
junior forward Kristen Steiner (Fallston/Fallston)
posted her second double double of the season and seventh of her
career as the Mustangs fell to Mary Washington in a CAC contest at
Student Union Gymnasium Wednesday evening, 50-27.
The Eagles (7-3, 3-0 CAC) remained unbeaten in conference play,
just half-a-game behind No. 7-ranked Marymount (Va.) who improved
its CAC record to 4-0 after holding York (Pa.) to just 27 points in
a 62-27 win at home Wednesday.
Steiner had 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds while adding
three steals. She was the lone Mustang in double figures as
freshman guard Vanessa Rice (Oxon Hill/National Christian
Academy) finished with a career-high eight points.
Sophomore guard Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St.
Elizabeth) tied a season-high with eight rebounds, two shy
of her career-high.
Mary Washington never trailed in the game and jumped out to a
12-6 lead in the game's first five minutes before taking a 26-15
advantage into halftime. Neither team shot the ball well in the
opening half with the Eagles shooting slightly better than
Stevenson at 28.1 percent.
The Mustangs got no closer than 11 in the second half and Kate
Carlezon's jumped with 47 seconds left gave Mary Washington its
largest lead and proved to be the margin of victory.
Stevenson was held to its lowest point total since the Eagles
handed the team a 60-26 defeat at home in the Mustangs' season
finale a year ago.
In the last four meetings against Mary Washington, Stevenson has
been held under 40 points each time while averaging just 30.3 per
game and surrending an average of 64.0 per contest.
Jenna McRae led the Eagles with a game-high 16 points. Katie
Wimmer and Kate Vennergrund each added nine.
The Mustangs have seven days to prepare for its next contest as
they host seventh-ranked Marymount (Va.) next Wednesday, January 13
at 5:00 p.m.
