ASTON, Pa. - Stevenson men's soccer freshman
Roderick Linkonko (Arlington, Va./Wakefield)
scored his first game-winning goal and sophomore
Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made
nine saves for his third shuout of the season as the Mustangs won a
non-conference contest at Neumann Wednesday, 1-0.
The win was the second-straight for Stevenson (7-8) and their
third in eight one-goal games this season, snapping a two-game
losing streak in those games.
Both teams battled through a scoreless tie for the first 62
minutes before Linkonko netted his second goal of the season in the
63rd minute for the game's only tally. He also scored the Mustangs'
only goal in a 3-1 loss at Shenandoah on September 27.
For Flannelly, it was his second consecutive shutout, extending
his scoreless streak to four games and over 311 if you dismiss the
team's own goal in a 1-0 loss to Rutgers-Camden on October 3.
Flannelly's nine saves were one shy of his career-high set on
September 23 in a 2-1 loss versus York (Pa.). He totaled three in
the decisive second half where the Knights held a 10-4 edge in
shots.
The loss was just the fifth in 13 games this season for Neumann
(7-5-1), including third in eight games at home.
After hosting its annual alumni game on Saturday, Stevenson
returns to action with a CAC contest versus Hood next Wednesday at
Caves Athletics Complex in the team's final regular-season home
game. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
